I have a little resin skull about 2 oz. and I bought double-sided stickies that didn't work at all on the dashboard and the velcroe stickies said 'not recommended for dashboards' so I didn't even try those. • Help! I need a non-toxic way to remove linoleum tile adhesive from a ceramic tile floor?

The previous owners covered beautiful tile floor with the most hideous linoleum flooring. I am able to remove the floor, but the adhesive is where I am stuck...almost literally. I bought adhesive remover, but after reading all the warnings about poison and toxins, I don't want to use it in the house having children. Help!Help! I need a non-toxic way to remove linoleum tile adhesive from a ceramic tile floor?
Soak in warm water and scrape. The good news is that the adhesive will not adhere well to the tile surface. All you need to do is wet it, let it sit, and scrape. Works well on concrete.

Any remaining residue can be scrubbed off with barkeepers friend and a white nylon scrub pad..Help! I need a non-toxic way to remove linoleum tile adhesive from a ceramic tile floor?
Orange (or any citrus based) oil and soy based removers work most times, but usually involve a bit more elbow grease. Its entirely possible, however, that you will need a chemical solvent and they are going to be noxious. If you do have to use a solvent just try to isolate the room and get as much ventillation as possible, drop a couple box fans and open a window or two and you will be fine. If you are super paranoid about the fumes while removing the glue you can always just buy a mask style respirator with cartridges for filtering out organic vapors.
If this was a peel and stick floor, try orange oil. It actually does work (called Goo Gone). If the adhesive is the black or white kind that is trowelled on...I'm sorry...
Just send the kids to the grandparents house for the weekend and do the job right! The only other option is to get on your hands and knees with a razor blade and try to scrape it, and use other solvents (which are also toxic) to try to dissolve the glue. What magic remedy are you looking for without using a remover product?
Getting that adhesive up is a tough job by itself. I've been successful with a lot of light scraping and mineral spirits and adhesive remover. I don't know if there is a non toxic way to do it.
if you have the can the adhesive came in call the manufactureer and ask them for an MSDS on the product that will give you the specs and proper solvent to deal with whaty ever chemical is in the product

    material safety data sheet

I believe its a federal law the MSDS sheet must be provided for all products by any one who sells them

How do you remove the adhesive residue left behind from band aids?

I had surgery and the tape they used to close up the incision has left sticky gray stuff all over and I cant get rid of it. I have tried rubbing alcohol and that is not workingHow do you remove the adhesive residue left behind from band aids?
Try baby oil. Spread a bit over the glue residue, let it sit for a couple of minutes, and wash. You probably don't want to get it on the incision if it's not completely closed up, of course. How do you remove the adhesive residue left behind from band aids?
I would use windex... that's what we use to clean adhesive off of car windows, after we bring them back from the auction.. of course, we also use a razor blade and steel wool, but, I don't think that would be a good idea for your skin.

anywho... thanx for the question.. it helped for me too...

Yeah oil works to unbond the adhesive on a molecular level. Similar tricks work for when adhesive pricetags leave residue.

Oil still leaves a nasty greasy feeling. Try using alcohol, it does the same thing and will dry on its own. Plus it's a disinfectant so if you do get it in the cut it will be ok.

If you don't have any baby oil in the house, nail polish remover is also another excellent way to remove the adhesive residue. It is quick, clean and doesn't hurt.

Sometimes it takes a while for it to completely come off, but it will. Just make sure when you are showering, that you scrub that area really well. As your dead skin cells wear away, so will the residue. After a few washes, you'll notice it less and less. I had that same problem just after being in the hospital giving birth and having things taped to me.
Try tea tree oil, I wore patches for pain management, similar to patches for cigarettes, they left residue all the time, the one thing I found that got rid of the gum residue completely was tea tree oil..
    try using baby oil.

it works well on my grandkids

How do you remove linoleum adhesive from hardwood floors?

the hardwood floors were once stained and sealed a long time ago, but we don't want to ruin them removing the linoleum tilesHow do you remove linoleum adhesive from hardwood floors?
Removing the tiles in this case is not the issue, but removing the backing that will inevitably be left behind and the adhesive. ...and depending on how old the linoleum is...and if the glue is black will determine if it can be done at all. If the adhesive under your floor is black, it's what's known as ';cutback';....it contains petroleum and asbestos. It's best left where it is....a new subfloor installed to encapsulate the asbestos...and go forward with a new floor.

If not, this is still one job that is really best left to the pros. While it sounds easy to rent a sander, and use the various grits of sandpaper to get the residue off of the floor.....sanding a floor with a floor sander and getting a smooth finish on the wood, is indeed an art. It's all in keeping the sander at the same speed and pace, so you don't get any hills and valleys in your floor. HGTV makes it look so simple...only because they don't show the outtakes! There are many flooring projects than you can do yourself...this should not be one.

While we all want to save money where we can....we also need to know when to call the pros. How do you remove linoleum adhesive from hardwood floors?
scraping it off is probably the only way. you will have to finish it off with a good sander. don't use any liquid as it can ruin the wood. you should get a professional, it'll take a couple days probably, but be worth the cost. call a flooring company.

What is the best adhesive to repair broken pottery?

My wife broke a large pottery platter, a clean break in five pieces. What is the best adhesive to repair broken pottery?
I used Super glue GEL 4g by:LOCTITE (in a blue tube)

No-drip gel formula is ideal for vertical applications and porous surfaces. Glues more materials including wood, paper, china, porcelain, rubber, leather and metal. Clog-free cap.

Use it SPARINGLY because when you put pieces together if you have to much extra could ooze out.

I also recommend take one piece apply glue then the another piece hold together 30 seconds, let the glue on those pieces set completely(5 mins for strength), then apply glue to third piece hold it to the first two pieces 30 seconds, let it completely set (5 minutes for strength) repeat for the next two pieces. What is the best adhesive to repair broken pottery?
2 part epoxy ceramic glue. The package contains 2 seperate parts of resin, and you have to ';mix'; them together and then apply it to the edges of the broken pottery.

The containers of the two part resin look like needles for lack of a better discription.

Should only set you back about $5.00 to $7.00 dollars
The best, I've found, is E6000. You can buy it almost everywhere.

I would use Scotch Permanent double sided tape, bought at Wal*Mart. What's a good adhesive to apply to the back of a photo?
Photo mounting squares, available at any craft store in the scrapbooking section. They're great - double sided adhesive and acid free. I use them all the time for our scrapbooks.

You can also get clear photo corners in the same department.
You can get archival glue at any craft store that will work just fine. You should also make sure the paper you mount it on is also archival. Some papers are too acidic to mount pictures on them. They could cause damage later on. Check your local craft store, like Michael's, for these products.
My favorite stuff is Kokuyo scrapbook adhesive. I get it at Michael's although Walmart might have it. It's a tape runner and it holds really well and is archival quality. Have fun!

WD-40 will do the trick. Spray it on - let set a bit- and use a terry/rough type wash cloth vs a smooth cloth to rub it off. Absolutely this will do the job. You may need to do a few times.

Peanut butter may also help but in this case i think it willl be more of a mess and maybe not get the job all the way done. It is a good standby though for future adhesive sticky problems.

I do not think the heat will work as i feel it will only dry the bond harder and you then may have to scape off with a knoife or something and this will be more tedious work. How would you remove adhesive from a painted wood surface.?
I'd try a Heat Gun, or that thing you use on your hair when you get out of the shower. Goo Gone might work too, but usually heat or cold will work. If you stick an envelope in the freezer over night, it will open, and be re-sealable.
Try ';GOO GONE';. Should work easily! Good luck.
Don't use heat, it may melt the paint. Baby oil or goo gone may do the trick. Peel the disc of very slow or just a little and then put some of this stuff behind it let set a couple minutes and try to peel again. Clean the remaining off with oil.
at home depot you can buy something that will take the adhesive off
Goo Gone works great. In a pinch, ou can use WD-40.

What kind of fasteners/adhesive should I use to install laminate flooring (Pergo) over ceramic tile?

I understand this is an acceptable process... However, I'm confused by how the laminate actually anchors to the tile. It makes sense that if you're putting it on wood sub-flooring you can just nail/staple, but when it's over ceramic, and I take into consideration that there's supposed to be underlayment, how does the laminate adhere? Or does it just float? What kind of fasteners/adhesive should I use to install laminate flooring (Pergo) over ceramic tile?
Like JB said you won t anchor the floor down.. Laminate need to float and move and expand and contract. The only pieces that need to be anchored will be any transition pieces(reducers, t- molds, stairnosings and carpet bars.. Those I drill w/ a masonary bit down thru the ceramic to wood floor and screw to the sub floor.. And its a 1/4 inch gap to all stable places (walls cuboards etc) Using trim to cover (usually shoe molding) Some of the underlayment will come w/ a self stick or a way of connecting the underlayment together w/o taping GLWhat kind of fasteners/adhesive should I use to install laminate flooring (Pergo) over ceramic tile?
Well Pergo is a floating floor. It doesn't get anchored down to the existing floor. It is called a floating floor because it will float with the movement of your slab/house. They are very very nice and super easy to install. All you do it put the foam/rubber lining down first and then the floor just snaps together like a puzzle. It is very easy. My husband and I just did the same thing on our slab over ceramic flooring. Good luck!! It look fabolous when everything is all done. Especially if you change your mind and dont want the pergo anymore, its really easy to just take right up.
Ask the people who sell Pergo. Friends of mine just put in a beautiful Pergo floor over ceramic tiles on a slab, so I believe it's possible. .
I think there is a product called TENAX which can be useful for you. This adhesive can be used on Ceramic tiles. For other detail you can see my source site
This does not get ';anchored'; to the existing floor underneath. It's what's called a floating floor. What keeps it from sliding around are a few factors. One is the sheer weight of the whole floor once it's all assembled and connected. The second is the rubber underlayment which is put down first before the Pergo flooring is installed. It comes in rolls that you roll out....I suggest using duct tape every few feet on joints to keep them together and clean. And third is the base molding that covers the 1/8'; expansion gap around the outside edges of the room, or shoe molding if leaving the existing base molding in place. Both cover up this expansion gap and ensures nothing can get between the floor and the wall to push the flooring around. I've installed Pergo in my living room, dining room, and main hallway in my own house. It's a good product, but my laminate flooring of choice is DuPont Real Touch. It's already got the rubber underlayment attached to each piece of flooring so there is no need to buy the rolls of it and tape them together. It also has a much more realistic feel and look. It's a little more expensive than Pergo, but keep in mind there is no need to buy the rolled underlayment like you do with the Pergo which adds to the cost. Plus the DuPont comes with an average of 35 year warranty for wear and tear. If you are interested in the DuPont, check it out at www.homedepot.com. I'm not a salesman nor do I work at Home Depot, just giving you some good advice from lots of experience. Hope this all helps and good luck with your new floor.

What's the best adhesive to use to join two pieces of flat plastic?

I have no idea what kind of plastic. I'm repairing a cracked drawer bracket.

Rubber cement? Plumbing adhesive? Ideas? What's the best adhesive to use to join two pieces of flat plastic?
There is a speacial glue. I think it's called acitone, or acitate. We used it in shop class when I was in school. You can find out for sure if you can contact ';TAP PLASTICS';. Thats the companies name. What's the best adhesive to use to join two pieces of flat plastic?
There is new stuff coming out all the time. When you go to the hardware store to buy some, look at the labels. There is glue for metal, plastics, pvc, fiberglass, and others. Look for the glue that says it will adhere to plastic. Remember not all glues are alike. Now if I see this correctly. To just glue the bracket together may not be enough. You may need to somehow glue a flat piece of something on top of the broke bracket, so the flat piece spans both sides of the bracket.
Gluing will probably not work for very long. Your best bet is to visit you local hardware store and they should have a replacement part for you for not much money. l have found that if one place doesn't have an exact replacement, try the next store. Since the plastic bracket is probably part of a set of hardware for the drawer, unless it is a very close replacement part, it will not work well with the other parts.

How do I clean adhesive tile off of hardwood floors?

For whatever reason, the previous owner used adhesive tile as a hearth for their woodstove (I know very illegal) I have pulled them all up, now I just need some guidance on how to strip the glue/adhesive stuff off of the hardwoods. Thanks for your help! How do I clean adhesive tile off of hardwood floors?
The trick I found that works the best is a heat gun and a putty knife, hairdryer would probably suffice for heat gun, anyways heat the old adhesive until it softens then scrape it with a putty knife, I'd try a plastic putty knife first to avoid ruining the finish, after you have as much of the adhesive removed as possible use adhesive remover or some hot soap and water to remove the residue, nail polish remover will etch the floors varnish and pull stain out the wood, so unless you want to refinish the entire floor I'd try this first. If you are successful in removing the old adhesive I recommend Min-wax floor restorer, that stuff works great. How do I clean adhesive tile off of hardwood floors?
I would try turpentine...it usually cuts and softens most glues...apply, wipe, apply, wipe..this will not hurt the finish on your floor. Any kind of scraping will damage the floor underneath. IF you plan on installing some kind of stone or ceramic hearth, you will have to overlay the floor with backer board, for you cannot set tile or stone to hardwood floors...too much movement. IN that case, just heat and scrape, get on with life.
Lighter fuel is excellent for removing gum/glue/paint. Lighter fuel as in Petrol. Pour some onto a rag and rub in then wipe off with a clean cloth, the fuel will evaporate in seconds. Let me know how you get on. Good luck. Jamesiree
There's several types of strippers you can use,but it will strip to bare wood.So if your going to put a new hearth down,I would cover over it.You may end up doing the whole floor if you try to strip it.

How much of the adhesive do I have to remove before I lay slate down in the kitchen?

I'm redoing the floor in my kitchen with 12x12 slate. I pulled up the old vinyl floor, and when I did, it left all the adhesive with a top layer of gray paper. Can I just put the mortar over this, or do I have to physically scrape up all that adhesive/paper?? I've tried an adhesive remover already, and its not coming up very easily at all...How much of the adhesive do I have to remove before I lay slate down in the kitchen?
If your subfloor is wood, then just put down some 1/4 or 1/2 inch tile backer board to cover the adhesive. Making sure to screw it down as recommended ( about every 4-6 inches) then you can use mortar and set your slate.

If your subfloor is concrete, Then you should remove all of the adhesive. You may need to see about some stronger adhesive remover or re-apply what you have. Once you have the adhesive removed, then you should wash the concrete with muratic acid and water -- about ten parts water and one part acid. Always add the one part acid to the water not the water to the acid - water added to acid will cause a cloud o gas that is harmful to breath.

Again if the subfloor is concrete and you can not get the adhesive off using remover and some muscle with a scraper, then you may have to grind it off. Unless you rent a professional floor grinder, your other option is to use a body grinder (7';) or a smaller one to do this. Problems with using these are the dust they will create and that you will probably creat more work for yourself because the grinder will make small dips and gouges in the subfloor - that is unless you have a lot of experience doing this and have a professional grinding wheel which I will assume you do not since you are asking for help here. If you do grind the glue off, when you are finished, I'd still recommend washing the floor with muratic acid to ';etch'; and clean the floor before setting the slate.

Removing old adhesive is never a fun project, but a necessary one if you want your new floor to last. Most of the long-term beauty of a new floor leis in the quality of the preparation - poor preparation and the floor will show it over time with loose tiles and crumbling grout.

I hope that this answered your question. Good luck with your project. How much of the adhesive do I have to remove before I lay slate down in the kitchen?
A quality installation would call for removal. You can rent a floor grinder from your local tool rental place or Home depot or lowes for 4 hrs. You have to get down on your knees, hold the big silver devil in both hands, (wear a dust mask) but it will shred that crap off like it wasnothing. Your arms will be tired, but the job will be perfect. No tiles sticking up, cornere higher than others, bad grout lines. A good base equals a nice tile job.

Then a really good vaccuming before laying out your chalk lines, laying down your thinset, and setting your slate.
You can, but shouldn't mortar over the adhesive. Your best bet is to scrape as much off as possible before installing. You need to have as flat a surface as possible to work with so there are no gaps between the mortar and floor and mortar and tile, otherwise it will make a hollow noise when stepped on and compromise the strength and integrity of the tile. Then you will have to replace broken tile and re-grout, leading to inconsistencies in color. All the work will be worth it in the long run.

    Good luck!
So long as you've got 1'; diameter hole every 3'; apart, you can continue to screed the floor with mortar.

Alternatively, just drive some nails into the floor leaving about 1/4'; to 1/2'; of nail above the floor, then screed to above that level. That should secure it well.

To make removing the bandage easier, apply a warm compress over the bandage to loosen the adhesive, leaving less sticky residue after you remove the bandage.

Apply baby oil, mineral oil or olive oil to remove any excess adhesive

    Hope that helps.
it's the same adhesive that would be left over from something like a bandaid or medical tape; i suggest rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover.

what you do is take one of the solvents and put a good amount on a cotton ball or square, then place it directly on the area. hold this there for a few seconds (NOTE: this should not burn, if it burns stop what you're doing and wait till the skin heals, and is not and open wound) then you can start rubbing lightly and this should get the adhesive to come off.

    i hope this helps!
plain soap and warm water...does the trick...

If not, you will need to cut carpet into 6 in. to a foot wide strips with a razor blade. You will need a lot of blades and some elbow grease to make sure you cut through the backing. Careful not to slip and cut your fingers off.

Go to the corner and cut into it with the razor blade.

Rubbing alcohol. The best way is to buy alcohol pads in boxes because using cotton balls aren't very easy to use and gauze will ball up too bad but ask the hospital for some alcohol swabs(pads) or buy them in a pharmacy. You could try using the corner of a wash cloth. Put alcohol on it and rub a lot. It takes a while but it comes off. I've used them LOTS of times.
try saturating some cotton balls with alcohol and rubbing on the residue.

    Jack Hammer. HA!
Any solvent you have should do it. If its like that used for tile and is very hard you may need to abrade it off. Acetone is the strongest solvent you want to work with, but be careful with it.
There is a special product called goo gone (or goo be gone) its a small bottle of orange liquid its an oil - it seeps into the adhesive and after a short period of time you can scrap the adhesive off you can use baby oil to get the same results or in a pinch cooking oil works too (but being thicker the cooking oil takes longer to soak in)

Pour it on the adhesive leave it for 10-15 minutes and scrape off what you can repeat a few times to get everything when you only have a little adhesive left use a rag to wipe the area roughly then clean with dish soap to get rid of the oily residue.

GOOO GONE!! you can get it at any home store,

It works sooooOOOooo GooooD! It will remove anything sticky!!
SOme one took my answer!!! Goo Gone!!!

So I will say this Adhesive Remover!!
There is a special scraper tool that you can buy (somewhere like Home Depot) that has a long handle that you use to remove the old mortar from where the tiles were. It looks like a giant chisel and the people in the flooring section will know what you're asking for.

As far as any solution to pour on it I'm afraid that there isn't any once the mortar is cured because it is no longer water soluable, nor will an oil base dissolve it either. Goo-Gone and other adhesive removers will not work as it is mortar that you have on the floor, not an adhesive.

If you don't want to buy the tool, a hammer and a chisel is the only other way, but I recommend the tool, as it is much faster and easier.
There is a couple of things that you can do but first you need to get those floor tiles off and you can do that by taking a putty knife and lifting them up. Once you have that done you can take a 5'; scraper with sharp throw away blades and get most of that adhesive up then get Jasco adhesive removal or Sentinel 747 adhesive removal (both at Home Depot) follow the directions and the remainder of the adhesive will scrape right up.

What is the best adhesive for wallpaper border?

We are putting border up in the kitchen. The previous tenants had a wallpaper border that was barely adhered to the wall - peeled right off by hand. Under that we found a smaller, older border that is ripped in many places and painted over with semi-gloss paint in others. The new border is prepasted, but recommends vinyl-on-vinyl adhesive if it's being applied over another wallcovering.

Should I just use water, get vinyl on vinyl adhesive, or use something else? I want it to look nice and not fall off the wall! What is the best adhesive for wallpaper border?
I don't understand your question. If you are putting the border directly on the wall, just use the water dip method. If you are putting the border over a vinyl wallpaper, use vinyl-vinyl paste. If you are putting it over semigloss paint, I would suggest the vinyl-vinyl paste, but It will be REALLY tough to remove.

Talk to the paint store and ask their advice, 90% of successful painting is good prep work. (You may be able to sand or grind off the rest of the residue.)

Painting over the residue will mean the texture will telegraph through. In time, the paint will wear off the residue patches at a different rate than elsewhere on the porch. You will have to re-paint sooner and deal with residue that is older and harder, with paint gunk layered over it.

I want to adhere cardboard to unpainted cinder block walls. So far i have tried tape and sticky tack, but to no avail. Anyone have other ideas? What is the best adhesive to use with unpainted cement walls?
Try caulk. That'll stick almost anything to almost anything else. What is the best adhesive to use with unpainted cement walls?
Use industrial strength double sided mounting tape (not picture mounting tape). It's used to mount things to exterior of buildings, etc. It has a red pealing back and is not recommended on some walls because it can take the plaster right off. This type of tape will adhere to a clean surface. Make sure the cinder block is free from loose particles (a wire brush to get off the particles), dust and is dry. Use a good amount of mounting tape and press firmly for at least 30 seconds to a minute before removing the red backing. Then take off the backing and adhere the cardboard right to it.
Cinder block is so porous that no glue will hold for long. Tape will be useless as the surface area that it covers is less than 1/2 the area that will actually touch the block and the sheer weight of tape will cause it to fail. I would use drywall compound. Apply about 1/4 of an inch and press the card board into it. removal will be a messy affair but it will hold until you want to remove it.

Hold an ice cube on them. When they get cold, they will come off easy. How do I remove adhesive hooks from the walls without ripping off the paint?
Many adhesives are moisture activated so applying a little water can help. Heat is another way, but depending on your paint job it can ruin the walls. Also, if you know what kind of adhesive it is, reapplying it or a similar adhesive can loosen it up. Nailpollish and alchohol can also be used, but they also have a high likely hood of causeing discoloration.
    Steam works good.

Then again it depends on the quality of the paint that was used and how it was applied,

Figure it this way, the paint is going to come off, do the best that you can to minimize that until you are ready to re-paint.
Try a little bit of WD40. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Depending on the situation, it might be possible to add an asphaltic layer and a screed over that. Or perhaps you could glue a layer of heavyweight polythene over the concrete. Or lay wood strips using asphalt (and hence waterproof) adhesive.

We had to remove carpet glue from a (2nd story) wood floor and wasted many hours with a rental sander before deciding to call in the professionals, who did it in less than a day.How do I remove adhesive from a cement floor?
Carpet glue is generally water soluble. Try adding water and let it set for 10 or 15 minutes. Take a scraper (an 8'; tapers knife should work) and try to remove the test spot. It will be messy. Have plenty of rags and a bucket of WARM water to keep the glue off of the knife and you.

If this works, you can do larger areas.

    GOOD LUCK!
Scrape it off with long handled scraper or a razor scraper.
    heat or a heat gun
use a wirewheel attached to a grinder
you can buy adhesive remover plus wd40 takes it off to.
Pour some water on it to see if it is water-soluble.

If so, the rest of the job is easy but messy.

How do i remove adhesive from my rubber sole shoe?

Spray with WD-40, let is soak then wipe off...How do i remove adhesive from my rubber sole shoe?
agua oxinadaHow do i remove adhesive from my rubber sole shoe?
You don't say what kind of adhesive so I am going to make an asumption that it's the sticky gel type. Most adhesives will return to a more liquid state with heat so there are two things you can try.

    1) Hold the shoe under a stream of HOT running water for a few mintues then take a rough cloth (like an old wash rag) and wipe in one direction to remove the adhesive. Or, if that doesn't work....

    2) Place a double layer of paper towels over the adhesive on the shoe. Over that, place a thin towel or old t-shirt. Then take an iron (set on the highest level) and run the iron over the area several times. This should make the adhesive liquid enough that it is absorbed in the paper towels and therefore removed from the shoe. Check the paper towels often and replace as needed until all the adhesive is removed.

    Hope that helps!
Try Goo Gone. It works so good.

What is the best adhesive to bond glass to metal for jewelry?

Some metal bails have come off of fused glass pendants I have made. I am currently using a 2 part epoxy glue. What is the best adhesive to bond glass to metal for jewelry?
Your 2 part epoxy should work great. Make sure you mixed equal parts. If you accidently use more of one side than the other the bond will not work correctly. Also, make sure you sand the surface of the metal and the glass. Smooth surfaces are difficult to attach to. Hope this works. What is the best adhesive to bond glass to metal for jewelry?

What is a good adhesive to fix a suction mount of a shower wand to a porscelin tile?

I have tried to attach the mount with a silicone adhesive similar to caulk but it and the wand keeps falling. What is a good adhesive to fix a suction mount of a shower wand to a porscelin tile?
yikes. this one is tougher than it reads.

I was first thinking a 2 part epoxy. However, the problem with this (and using liquid nails) is that you are trying to stick to rubber on the other end. the ceramic tile would be ok with any of the above.

I assume the rubber (suction cup) is some sort of silicone or soft urethane. your only chance to really get a good bond with this is to try a soft 2 part urethane. In this case, I would be hitting it with a primer from Lord (459T) before using a 2 part urethane.

I would agree that the suction cup should be enough to hold the unit in place. using a urethane to prep the ceramic surface may be enough to allow the suction cup to stick with suction. What is a good adhesive to fix a suction mount of a shower wand to a porscelin tile?
    construction adhesive
A suction mount is supposed to work with (unbelievable as it sounds) suction. It helps to moisten the inside of the cup first but by putting silicone in it you prevent it from making an airtight seal. Start over with a fresh mount.
    have you tried liquid nail

What is the best adhesive on shoe rubber when applying Crytals?

I am trying to add foiled flat back crystal 4mm to the outside rubber sole of my daughters shoes. They keep falling off and nothing seems to be keeping them on help! I have use Gem Tac, Flip Flop Glue, E6000.What is the best adhesive on shoe rubber when applying Crytals?
I am thinking the glue is not your problem.

If the rubber part of the shoe bends at all it would pop them off.

If you would like to try another glue, try Aleenes clear tacky. It will have some ';give'; to it and help the crystals stay on the shoe when it flexes.

The only other possibility I can think of would be Hot Glue. Sorry I am not of more help. Good luck. What is the best adhesive on shoe rubber when applying Crytals?
The problem is, you are actually gluing the foil, not the crystals. I truly don't know of any glue that will keep crystals on the edges of an active child's shoe. This site might give you some help.

    http://www.thistothat.com/index.shtml
heh, try to use sandpaper, rough stuff on the center, and mix some 2 part epoxy, and mix it fast, clam it together with a vice or something, as to apply a lot of pressure, and let it set for a day or two. i dont know what you mean by crystals, but epoxy is extremly strong, if all else fails, use gorilla glue or duck tape

  • Can I install a granite tile backsplash with construction adhesive?

Or do I have to use the traditional mortar method? Can I install a granite tile backsplash with construction adhesive?
Use Polyseamseal - sold most all hardware stores. It is a adhesive/sealant - resists mold %26amp; stains - great product! Can I install a granite tile backsplash with construction adhesive?
You would need to read the adhesive bottle and make sure you are purchasing the right type of glue for the environment of the room which you are planning on installing the backsplash. Ie, make sure it is not water soluble. And then yes, you could use caulking for the ';grout'; lines.

Do take into consideration that you are spending probably a decent amount of money on the granite tile, and you should probably consider installing it the proper way, with mortar and grout. Using the traditional method will also ensure you the best appearance.

    Best of luck!
use the construction adhesive then use a silicone calk to seal the joint
Mastik and grout. You spent good money for granite why cheat now.
NO. depending on the size of the tile if they are under 8x8 use mastic, over use thinset. construction adhesive may work for ceramic, but not for stone marble granite porcelain. these tiles are porous and may draw the glue through the tile. BE SURE TO USE WHITE MORTAR OR MASTIC FOR THE SAME REASON.
You have to use the mortar method because that is the proper adhesive for tiles.
The problem with using some other adhesive than thin set, is that granite is a porous material and draws the adhesive in, telegraphing the glue lines. Imagine looking at your nice new backsplash that would have faint blotches of darkness where you placed the adhesive. It would also be susceptible to stress cracks. I have used caulk, etc in the past, to facilitate a repair, but the lines of the adhesive ghost thru each time.

Is it better to use a mortar or and adhesive to dot and dab plaster board to walls?David?

In a sense the question is a bit confusing. Are you installing DRYWALL to studs? OR are you boarding over and existing wall material? Is PLASTERBOARD the actual substance?

Have you defined the differences between Mortar and ';adhesives';?

Certainly if this is material going over studs or existing wall material, one might use a contracting adhesive, but it wouldn't be my choice as the only method to secure new wall material.

I'm going to assume this is not Lathe/ Mesh/ and Plaster being installed.

Just my two ';sense';Is it better to use a mortar or and adhesive to dot and dab plaster board to walls?David?
If the background you are fixing to is very rough then I would dot and dab with bonding compound. If the background is straight and true then I would use 2 by 1 or 2 by 1.5 battens. Then simply screw the plasterboard to the timber making sure the battens are centered according to the width of the sheet. Normally 1200 is the size of the slab so your battens will be 600 on center vertically with one batten running horizontally on top and one on the bottom that will also give you something to fix the skirting board to. If you decide to dot and dab, fixing skirting boards and corner beads will have to be stuck on by adhesive. Bonding compound can be used for corner beads as long as you sponge off any excess leaving room for the finish skim coat.Is it better to use a mortar or and adhesive to dot and dab plaster board to walls?David?
Use joint compound, the same stuff used to finish the drywall.

  • What is the best way to remove residual wallpaper adhesive?

I'm remodeling a bedroom and have removed all the paper but the wall is still tacky. I've tried Dif and it isn't working very well. Is there a better way? Vinegar? What is the best way to remove residual wallpaper adhesive?
Best way I've found is to use a sponge and a plastic scraper. Liberally soak a section of wall, then scrape the residue with the scraper. If the walls were not prepped prior to installation of the wallpaper, I've found it's much easier to skimcoat the wall with drywall mud, sand smooth, prime, and paint. It's a lot less of a headache. Good luck. What is the best way to remove residual wallpaper adhesive?
Bummer. When I sold wallpaper, we sold a lot of Dif. Did you follow the directions on the container? As I recall, you had to wet the area multiple times.
I have used a mixture (50/50) of fabric softener and water in a spray bottle that worked pretty well. I still had to scrape with a kitchen spatula some but it came off easily.
if the adhesive is still gooey, try GooGone, it has worked well for me, Normally inexpensive, and available everywhere
    Warm water and white vinegar
a bucket of HOT water and a rag... wipe it. scrape it. repeat.
    steam might work

Ive tried all the 3M products and nothing stayed on the wall. I cannot put holes in the wall therefor I need someway of hanging stuff. Any suggestions? Is there an adhesive hook that can hold up to 10 lbs or more?
I have used those command adhesive strips. I found that they don't stick as well on walls that are painted with flat paint, or if the paint was applied in the last week or so. I got them at the local hardware store (Home Depot). There are different sizes that hold different weights. I have found that you pretty much have to leave them alone once you place them or they don't stick well. With some of their hooks I have used a double strip because of the way the plastic hook is made. It has to make good contact with the wall %26amp; whatever you are sticking to it.

try some mineral spirits you can buy it at your local hardware store being the residue is in the basement of your home mineral spirits is low odor and effective try scouring pad or scrub brush
If you have a Lowe's by you, go to the flooring department and tell them what you want to do. They make a product that removes the glue from the concrete.
You may get dirty, but you could try some paint remover and a wire brush on the end of a drill. wear gloves googles and old pants. Pour on the paint remover and spread it out with a notched trowel, the thinner the better, a little will go a long way. clean up with some soap and water and rinse with baking soda OR vinegar to stop the paint remover from working.

I've used a paper cutter for quickly and easily cutting long strips of self-adhesive vinyl. To cut out complex shapes, though, I would either use scissors or maybe an X-acto knife or single-edge razor blade. You can draw the desired shape (in mirror image) on the paper backing -- that simplifies the process. Then you can use a straightedge as a knife guide to help in cutting along the straight segments of the lines.

  • What kind of adhesive works best for sticking down the edges of a wallpaper border that are sticking up?

Also are there any special techniques or tricks to use in doing it? What kind of adhesive works best for sticking down the edges of a wallpaper border that are sticking up?
DON'T use liquid nails. that would be a nightmare and would ruin the drywall. might even bleed through the wall paper. try a good old fashioned glue stick like we used back in the 2nd grade. shouldn't do any harm to paint or drywall, and it's easily applicable to the offending loose surface of the border. What kind of adhesive works best for sticking down the edges of a wallpaper border that are sticking up?
If the seams were overlapped during hanging, you need to use vinyl-vinyl paste.

If the seams are just curling, get a container of seam sealer.

If you use Elmer's or liquid nails you will NEVER, I repeat, NEVER get the border off without damage to the walls.

I have used liquid nails. Put it on a trowel and let it get tacky for a while. slide it under the curling walpaper and press it down. Then quickly wash off excess with a sponge and water.
You might want to get some heavy duty wallpaper glue for vinyl paper and run it along the seams with your finger. You can keep it on hand for future use if any other seams loosen up.
Oddly.... Elmers is great for this...let it get a bit tacky and then press down.

Goo gone, it smells god awful but works like a charm. What's the best way to remove the adhesive gunk left over from a bumper sticker?
    goo gone

    paint thinner

    gas

    razer blade

carb cleaner (not where paint is peals clear coat)
WD-40 is the best thing that I know of. It makes short work out of anything sticky.
use a hair dryer to heat it up it will come right off
First of all DO NO USE NAIL POLISH REMOVER!!! This stuff is designed to strip paint as well as paint thinner. Gasoline, carb cleaner, and WD-40 will leave a residue on your paint and can ruin the finish. I have never tried peanut buter on adhesives but it works wonders for road tar and bugs. Goo Gone is great stuff and works for many other things as well, also I have never had a problem with it harming the paint. Some decal adhesives do not come off even with this stuff. Use a little Goo gone on a shop towel or old rag and rub it lightly. If the adhesive starts to smear it's working. Keep rubbing it until it is no longr attached then use a little more to clean up the residue. Make sure you wash your car with CAR soap immediately after so there is no cleaner left on the paint.
Peanut Butter or Vegetable oil work well if you want something fast and don't have time to go to the store. But if you have time to shop i recomment Goo gone. You can get it at the dollar store for $1 a bottle instead of $4 at a regular store.
Some stuff called ';Goof Off';. Just don't get it on paint for long. The wife swears by the stuff.
    TRY ICE THEN HOT WATER
    Try ';Goo Gone.';

If that doesn't work, or the fumes are too much, try rubbing alcohol.
Try a product by the name of Goo Gone. You can buy it at Walmart, a $1 or .99 cents discount store, or local hardware store. I've used this product on a variety of substances with great results.
i just put rubbing alcohal on a paper towel and rub the stuff off.
You got the best answer first.
FINGER NAIL POLISH REMOVER %26amp; A WASH CLOTH , WORK FAST IT DRIES FAST. DONT GET IT ON YOUR PAINT . WD40 WILL TAKE IT OFF YOUR PAINT ,TAKES A LITTLE MORE TIME WITH WD40 BUT IT WILL WORK.
    goo-away
Fingernail polish remover is what I used to good results.
Alcohol will work on some adhesives-if it's on the paint of the car I wouldn't try anything stronger. Lacquer thinner will work on the bumper (assuming it's chrome-plated steel and not plastic).I wouldn't try it on the windows though-not sure what that would do.Saw a suggestion for WD 40 , but that isn't kind to paint=it gets into it on the molecular level.
this may sound really weird but i am telling you this. Use peanut butter, really don't laugh, it works the oils from the peanut butter will lift it off. Just smaer the peanut butter on let sit for a few then wipe it off. Like I said Don't laugh, try it you will see it works.

Are you talking about putting a roll-on roofing product over corrugated material -probably fiberglass?

If you are all you are going to do is have problems. It really sounds like you need to remove the corrugated sheets and then replace them with the same or steel.

Are any of the sheets cracked or broken? If not your leak may be in the ridge (top) of the roof, where the roof attaches to the house - if it is an attached garage, or some of the fasteners that are holding the sheets down are loose or missing - may only need to tighten and/or replace with neo-screws for that type of roofing - ask for these screws at any supply store and they will know what you need.

I hope that this has helped or given you a couple ideas. What kind of adhesive is best to use ?
use a cheap plastic tarp, if the neighbors don't mind just leave it up there, otherwise take it down until next rain and it will last longer

What do I need to sand down floor adhesive until it is smooth?

I have a concrete floor with left-over floor adhesive from the linoleum that used to be there. What do I need to smooth it out and how much money am I looking at spending on this? What do I need to sand down floor adhesive until it is smooth?
You can use an electric hand sander if it's not to large an area. If it's large rent a floor cleaning machine with a sanding disc from you local rental store. What do I need to sand down floor adhesive until it is smooth?
Use a chemical adhesive solvent. Should get by for about $.03/sq ft.
Try scraping. Or put ice on it to make it brittle or acetone to desolve it. Then scrape. Not much money ...mostly elbow grease.
maybe try a adhesive remover they make one special for sheet vinyl glue, pour let soak for half hour then scrape. 10 bucks a gallon. if that doesnt work sand it down with a disc sander.

  • What is the best way to remove construction adhesive from a window without damaging the glass?

Previous owner used construction adhesive to attatch something to the basement window. Now there is a large circle of adhesive in the middle of the window. How do I remove it without damaging the glass? What is the best way to remove construction adhesive from a window without damaging the glass?
Actually glass is far more durable than many think. I have found an effort is required to scratch it. Of course a rock through it will break it but things like SOS Pads, Steel Wool, as well as razor knives will normally leave the window unscathed.

WD 40 will probably work but I think I would opt for Acetone or Paint Thinner. Either of those and a razor knife will do the trick. Keep the chemicals off any paint or plastic and be sure the area is adequately ventilated. Some Windex and a cloth or paper towel will finish the job. What is the best way to remove construction adhesive from a window without damaging the glass?
a razor blade will not damage the window try using a razor scraper
    WD-40 and gentle scrubbing.

How to remove adhesive pad from windshield ?

I just installed windshield mount for my GPS unit but decided to remove it. However, I can't remove adhesive pad. How can I remove it?How to remove adhesive pad from windshield ?
I have had good results using wd-40 and a plastic ';razor'; style blade, available at most auto parts stores auto paint supplies stores and even Wal-Mart.

Soak the pad with wd-40, allow several minutes to penetrate, then use the plastic blade to peel off the pad.

Sometimes the application of heat(hair dryer) can loosen the adhesive enough that the plastic blade can remove the pad.

WARNING! Do NOT use any sort of metal device. I t WILL scratch your windshield. Plastic blades only! How to remove adhesive pad from windshield ?
wd 40 would work but then you may not be able to use the pad. I'd try using a screw driver or razor blade, prying off what you can of the pad leaving some adhesive and then using wed 40 or rubbing alcohol to get off the rest. A auto body shop would be able to get it off with ease.. and probably for free. I'd suggest going there because if you screw it up then your dash and your gps wont be the same
The old school razor blades (one edge and the other side is folded metal so you can hold it) are good to scrape most of it off. Then you need a solvent to dissolve the glue. Goof-off is a product sold at hardware stores and home centers that is handy for that kind of thing. You can get the old blades there too.
Use WD-40 to get it off; it will remove it.
Soak the area in windex, then gently scrape it off with a razor blade. Works for anything sticky on glass.
use a razor blade and scrape it off very carefully
did you try using a single edge razor blade?

Is tape and adhesive needed to apply your lace front wig? Or can you use just one of those?

Thank you.Is tape and adhesive needed to apply your lace front wig? Or can you use just one of those?
You use 1 or the other. I prefer tape personally but you can use liquid adhesive if you prefer. I find tape much handier %26amp; not as messy as liquid. I often dont need any remover but you might want to use a bond solvent. www.hairdirect.com is great for all kinds of adhesives %26amp; removers. Is tape and adhesive needed to apply your lace front wig? Agreed! I used to use the glue but it's pretty time-consuming (waiting on the glue to get tacky) and can be irritating to the skin after a while. The tape is pretty cut-and-dry, applying and removing. I prefer the tape.. plus, it doesn't take as long %26amp; it's held my unit on much longer.
