How do you remove adhesive from a wooden door?

My friends put foam heart-shaped stickers on my door for valentine's day. I tried taking them off, but several of them ripped and left very stubborn adhesive behind. I don't want to pay for damages, and am looking for an easy yet effective way to get rid of it.How do you remove adhesive from a wooden door?
Before you try Goo Gone (which can strip the finish off of wood) try regular old vegetable oil. Put a good amount of veggie oil on the sticky stuff. It can't hurt the wood so pour it on and let it sit for a few minutes. Take a dry towel and rub in a circular motion. Should take the goop right off and cost you next to nothing.

If you find that it does not work and need to use the Goo Gone try testing it out by using it on a small section of the floor that is not visible by everyone. Leave it on for 2-3 minutes and wipe it of with a rag then with a damp rag to remove the product. If the finish is still good it should be okay to use.

Good Luck! Oh, peanut Butter is another great way to remove sticky sticker gunk. wipe it on, Leave for 2-3 minutes and wipe it off.
