I want to glue accent pieces of 1/8” thick cherry wood (small detail type pieces) to the surface of already varnished pine. I am concerned that any adhesive I use will damage the varnished surface. I’m hoping someone can recommend an adhesive or method that will allow me to easily do this. I would prefer to avoid scraping off the existing vanish if possible. What is the best adhesive/method to use when attaching unfinished wood to a piece of varnished wood?
Before you try to glue the piece of cherry wood, you want to score/sand the spot on the varnished piece. Many glues won't cure properly to something varnished so you have to sand the finish down. You don't have to scrape the varnish off but if you carefully sand it down, you will get a better sticking surface. You could probably get away with Elmer's Carpenter's glue. What is the best adhesive/method to use when attaching unfinished wood to a piece of varnished wood?
sanding would be different from scraping. you ought to sand the surface where you would stick it. A wood glue ( Elmers, Pioneer or weldwood) will do the trick!
