How do you get adhesive off the back of bathroom tile?

I have tiles that were installed in a remodeling project. Unfortunately, they were not installed correctly. I took them off the walls, but need to get the adhesive off the back. I was told that I can't soak them in something to get the adhesive off because the tile would soak up the stuff I soaked it in and then I wouldn't be able to get them to adhere to the wall again. Is there something that will remove it short of filing it off?How do you get adhesive off the back of bathroom tile?
Assuming the tiles were put up with a mastic glue of some type you should be able to soak them in water to soften the glue and then scrape it off. The tiles may soak up some water but they will dry back out.

If the tiles were put up with mortar then you are probably out of luck.

I would think that you might be better off buying new tile unless this is really expensive stuff. You are about to invest a lot of time and energy getting the adhesive off.How do you get adhesive off the back of bathroom tile?
Contrary to what you were told about not soaking the tiles, I have found that soaking them in warm water for about 30 minutes, %26amp; then using a wallpaper to scrape the adhesive off the backs works fine. It's best to allow the tiles a few days to dry.
50% water 50%vinegar. Lightly rub with a sponge or cloth.
goo gone I think is what its called you can find it at craft stores. should work it takes super glue and wet cement off stuff so I bet it will get that off too.
